An undergraduate programme for B.A in Economics and Media Studies was introduced in the month of December, 2020. It is a double main Programme. The course offers Economics and Media Studies as its core subjects and it is included in the category of new gen courses.
Previously, we had only one among the core subjects-Economics, which was an independent department offered as a complementary paper for the first degree programme in History. It was headed by Asst. Professor Ruby H. After the inception of the new department also she is continuing as the head. The department always actively participated and co-ordinated various academic and co-curricular activities in association with the departments of History and Politics as well as the department alone.
After the commencement of the course, the department organised a national webinar on orientation programme named, ‘Awake ‘21’ for the entire departments. By taking this course, students are able to analyse the performance and functions of government, markets, business institutions in the context of social and economic problems.
Media Studies aim to prepare students to work in media related industries and train them to critically evaluate the ways in which the media reflects, represents and influences the world. The course provides opportunity to do higher studies in any of the core subjects and get chances in different sectors especially , business journalism. Above all, the department strives to inculcate a feeling of oneness and international understanding among the students .
